Almost 90% of Kazakhstanis prefer domestic tourism

In 2024, 87.7% of Kazakhstanis chose domestic tourist trips, El.kz reports citing Bureau of National Statistics.

The total number of trips made was more than 11.2 million. At the same time, only 12.3% of travelers (1.38 million people) went abroad, the rest (9.9 million ) remained inside Kazakhstan.

93.3% of trips was made for personal purposes: visiting relatives, vacation , tourism. Only 6.7% of trips were related to business tasks.

Among the popular destinations for domestic tourism are Astana (10.5% of the total), Almaty (10.2%), Turkestan (8.8%), Karaganda (7.9%) and Almaty (7.4%) regions.

The total spending of tourists in 2024 reached 957.7 billion tenge, of which 582.7 billion for domestic tourism.

The data confirm the popularity of domestic tourism in Kazakhstan and the characteristic economical travel model: trips by private car, accommodation with friends and moderate expenses.
