Almaty Superski is opening new horizons for winter tourism in Almaty and laying the foundation for turning the city into a key destination for leisure and sporting events in the region, El.kz reports.
This was announced at a meeting of the Board of Directors of Kazakh Tourism Development Ltd., attended by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, where the implementation of the Almaty Superski project was discussed as part of the President’s vision for developing Almaty’s ski cluster. The company’s CEO, Yerzhan Yerkinbayev, presented the updated master plan of the resort, developed in cooperation with the international consulting company Pas Grau International (PGI).
The project envisions the introduction of advanced technologies in ski equipment production, the use of satellite data to analyze climate and terrain conditions, and the application of green standards. In drafting the master plan, the best global practices implemented at over 120 resorts worldwide have been taken into account.
PGI President Joan Viladomat emphasized the strategic importance of the location selected for construction, situated near the metropolis, which will ensure a stable tourist flow and allow the resort to take a leading position in the region from its first years of operation. The city’s developed infrastructure—including hotels, restaurants, and transport links—will help minimize construction directly on the resort’s territory.
Special attention is given to environmental compliance. The master plan is being developed in line with national and international sustainability standards, as well as principles of year-round eco-tourism.
As a result, the project will strengthen Almaty’s international reputation as a center of winter and sustainable tourism, while attracting investment in hospitality, transport, services, and small and medium-sized businesses.
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov stressed the need for strict adherence to environmental regulations during the resort’s construction, noting that the project must be carried out with minimal impact on the environment and with respect for the natural balance of the region.
The Board of Directors of Kazakh Tourism Development Ltd. approved the master plan, which will serve as the basis for preparing the feasibility study and design documentation.
The Almaty Superski project is expected to become a driver of tourism development in Kazakhstan, create new opportunities for residents and visitors, and contribute to achieving the country’s national goals of economic diversification.
