Large-scale businesses, government officials, and experts have discussed how to transform the region into a modern, year-round tourism hub, El.kz reports
The meeting took place at the "Almatygenplan" Research Institute and was organized by the "Atameken" National Chamber of Entrepreneurs.
The discussion included Kanat Sharlapayev, Nurlan Abdrakhim, Yerzhan Yerkinbayev, Bauyrzhan Rapikov, and other representatives of the government, business community, and expert circles.
Special attention was given to the "Almaty Superski" project, which involves creating a modern infrastructure across an area of more than a thousand hectares.
Plans include the construction of 17 ski lifts and approximately 60 kilometers of ski slopes. Future targets aim for up to 30 cable cars and a total slope length of 151 kilometers.
The project is designed for year-round use. In the summer, the area will offer hiking trails, cycling tracks, and mountain biking infrastructure.
A significant emphasis was placed on ecology. Developers are collaborating with scientists to minimize the environmental impact and preserve the mountain ecosystem.
According to forecasts, the number of domestic tourists could grow to 3.4 mln people by 2028, while inbound tourism is expected to reach 2.5 million.
This development is expected to create thousands of new jobs and significantly increase tax revenues for the budget.
Meeting participants emphasized that Almaty has every chance of becoming the primary mountain tourism center for the entire region. The key priority remains maintaining a balance between development and nature conservation.
