Alatau considered as Kazakhstan’s first city with paid entry

The new city of Alatau may introduce an environmental fee for vehicle entry and restrict traffic in certain zones, El.kz reports.

Kazakhstan’s first city that could introduce an environmental entry fee is not Almaty, but Alatau. The city also plans to implement flying taxis and other innovative transportation solutions.

Under the corresponding constitutional law signed by the President of Kazakhstan, the city administration will be able to establish its own environmental requirements for transport, including restrictions on vehicle entry, bans on certain types of vehicles, and paid access to specific zones.

In addition, the authorities of Alatau are being granted the right to create experimental legal frameworks. The city plans to test and implement new technologies from autonomous transport and smart city systems to solutions involving the internet of things, AI, and robotic systems.

Alatau is being positioned as a pilot platform for technological and environmental solutions that could later be expanded to other cities across the country.
