AI recreates Pelé’s most beautiful goal

Artificial intelligence has helped recreate Pelé’s legendary goal scored 67 years ago. The remarkable moment was never captured on video because no cameras were present at the match, El.kz reports.

On August 2, 1959, Pelé scored what many consider one of the greatest goals in soccer history. He pulled off three consecutive "sombreros" past the defenders and the goalkeeper, then headed the ball into the net.

But Google used Gemini and DeepMind technology to recreate the legendary goal.

Now, Google DeepMind has rebuilt the moment as a video, working closely with Pelé’s family and estate managers. Historian Anita Lucchesi and her team gathered nearly 2,000 historical records and interviewed eyewitnesses to reconstruct the sequence.

Live-action footage was shot on the same stadium grass with professional footballers in period uniforms, while Veo, Gemini Omni, and Nano Banana Pro mapped Pelé’s likeness and number 10 kit onto the stunt player and recreated the stadium exactly as it looked that day.

“He always regretted that this goal had never been recorded. It is incredible that technology has now made it possible to experience that moment again,” said  Flavia Kurtz, Pelé’s daughter.
