AI could extend human lifespan to 1,400 years

Swedish philosopher and futurologist Nick Bostrom has stated that the emergence of artificial superintelligence (ASI) could extend the average human lifespan to 1,400 years. He detailed this in his new essay, "The Optimal Timing for Superintelligence," El.kz reports.

Bostrom compared the creation of strong artificial intelligence to a dangerous heart surgery. According to him, refusing the intervention could lead to the patient's death, while the operation itself carries risks but offers a chance for a radical improvement in life.

The philosopher believes that even the potential for catastrophic consequences does not outweigh the potential benefits of superintelligent AI. In his view, such technology will be able to rid humans of disease and aging.

According to Bostrom’s calculations, if mortality can be reduced to the level of modern 20-year-olds - approximately 0.07% per year from accidental causes - the average human life expectancy could reach about 1,400 years.

Furthermore, the researcher calls this estimate "conservative." In his reasoning, he does not account for even more radical scenarios, including the potential digitization of human consciousness (mind uploading) and forms of "eternal life" that could emerge through the development of artificial intelligence.
