In September 2023, deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan will consider a law on the problem of gambling addiction. In this regard, Kazakhstan plans to impose restrictions on advertising bookmakers and develop a new law on gambling addiction, El.kz reports.

This was announced by Yevgeny Kochetov, Vice Minister of Information and Social Development, during a meeting of the Senate on June 29. On the same day, senators approved the draft law "On Online Platforms and Online Advertising" at the first reading and raised the issue of gambling addiction.

The latest data show that about 350,000 people, mostly young people, suffer from gambling addiction. In this regard, the question arises about the urgent need for tighter control over the aggressive advertising of bookmakers and gambling on the Internet. Senator Ruslan Rustemov asked whether such advertising would be marked with special markers and whether it was planned to ban or restrict it.

Yevgeny Kochetov noted that some provisions related to gambling addiction have already been included in the law "On Online Platforms and Online Advertising". A separate bill on gambling addiction will be considered in the fall. However, he added that the regulation will apply to all content defined in bylaws, and not just content related to gambling addiction.
