Shezhire in AI era: Maksat Zhabagin on preserving national digital heritageIn Kazakhstan, 93.4% of the population uses the internet, El.kz reports citing an infographic by Iswardi Ishak based on data from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The map compares the share of people who accessed the internet using a computer or mobile device during the preceding three months. The analysis is based primarily on 2025 data; where such data were unavailable, statistics from the previous year were used.
For Kazakhstan, the figure refers to 2024. This is confirmed by data from the International Telecommunication Union.
According to international statistics on internet usage, other countries in the region also demonstrate high levels of connectivity. In Russia, 95.6% of the population uses the internet.
Denmark stands out among countries with near-universal internet use, recording a rate of 99.8%. The infographic shows a 100% rate for Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). These figures should be interpreted as rounded statistical estimates.
The digital divide between countries remains significant. In Nigeria, for example, 41.2% of the population uses the internet. The proportion of internet users is also comparatively low in other African countries.
However, a high proportion of internet users does not, in itself, provide a comprehensive picture of connectivity quality or affordability. Even in countries with extensive internet coverage, access to high-speed services can vary considerably between urban and rural areas.
Kazakhstan continues to expand internet connectivity in rural settlements. Specific infrastructure projects provide for the deployment of fibre-optic networks and the use of satellite communications in hard-to-reach areas.
According to estimates by the International Telecommunication Union, approximately 6 billion people worldwide were using the internet in 2025. A substantial share of the global population nevertheless remained offline.
