The Bureau of National Statistics has published a second thematic compendium on the ethnic composition, religion and language skills of the population of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The study was conducted as part of the 2021 Population Census, El.kz reports.

According to the 2021 Census, the proportion of the population professing Islam remained almost unchanged at 69.3%. Christianity in the country is practiced by 17.2% of the population, while Buddhism and Judaism are less common and make up less than 0.1% of the total.

It should be noted that the share of non-believers decreased from 2.8% to 2.3% in 2021. However, 11% of respondents refused to indicate their affiliation with any religion, which is significantly more than in 2009, when the share of refuseniks was only 0.5%.

The next thematic collection on education in the Republic of Kazakhstan will be published on November 6.
