Mahatma Gandhi is an Indian public figure, ideologist of the Indian independence movement from Great Britain. Gandhi supported the tactics of peaceful struggle against British domination and is considered the founder of non-violence philosophy.
As part of world-wide celebration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, KazPost JSC issued a Commemorative Postal Stamp of 500 kzt denomination.
The stamp was released on 11 November 2019 jointly by Shri V. Muraleedharan, Hon’ble Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs and Minister of State in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, and Mr. Askar Abdykarimov, Managing Director on Administration and Maintenance Activity.
The commemorative stamp that is now being released by the Republic of Kazakhstan on the occasion of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, is of 500 kzt denomination. This monochrome stamp bears a photograph of Mahatma Gandhi, together with his famous quotation, “I want to wipe tear from every eye.”
Kazakhstan thus joined more than 100 countries who have issued commemorative postal stamps to mark the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who was born on 2 October 1869.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shri V. Muraleedharan said that India should develop appropriate programmes and plans to establish relations with Central Asian countries.
“We are trying to establish peaceful relations. India must have a global and bilateral relationship. We have a dialogue with all of five countries, and Afghanistan is a part of it as well. We will also engage in an economic aspect. The reason of my visit is the Meeting of Astana Club. The issues are related, in particular, to Central Asia. The cooperation of Kazakhstan and India in this context is represented in various aspects as strategic partnership, energy, IT-sector. Kazakhstan is the largest country of Central Asia and we anticipate expanding cooperation with this prominent country in the coming year,” Minister said.
Mr. Askar Abdykarimov speaking on behalf of Kazpost JSC, emphasized that it was a great honor for Kazpost to issue a commemorative stamp to mark 150th anniversary of a famous politician and public figure Mahatma Gandhi, who made a tremendous contribution to the struggle for India's independence. His honesty is high decency. Mahatma Gandhi is respected all over the world; in Kazakhstan, Gandhi is a person associated with India, its development, achievements of rich culture and history. I congratulate the Indian people on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's anniversary and wish them bilateral economic and cultural cooperation between our countries and postal services.” Kazpost Representative said.
The Government of India has launched a number of programmes to commemorate 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2 October 2018 and these will continue till 2 October 2020.
