150-year-old costumes presented in Aktau

A fashion show featuring over 70 designers from Turkic-speaking countries took place in Aktau. The event brought together representatives of the fashion industry from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, as well as from Bashkortostan, Tuva, Kalmykia, Chuvashia, Hungary, and Mongolia, El.kz reports citing the city akimat.

From Kazakhstan, 34 designers presented their collections, including artisans from the Mangystau region. Each look was not just fashionable, but meaningful—reflecting a deep connection with traditions, national ornamentation, and cultural memory.

“We brought hand-sewn clothing to this festival that is over 150 years old. Our models showcased six historical looks,” said Ilkhomjon Ismailov, a representative from Kyrgyzstan. He praised the high level of organization and expressed gratitude to the host country.

The fashion show was part of the major cultural initiative “Aktau – Cultural Capital of the Turkic World”, which is being held throughout 2025 and includes a wide range of creative and educational events.
