In the period from 22 to 28 October, the Chinese city of Hangzhou will host the IV Asian Para Games. In competitions held every 4 years, 564 sets of medals in 22 sports will be played, El.kz reports with reference to the Ministry of Sports.
Our country will be represented by 131 athletes who will compete for 485 sets of medals in 14 sports. Athletes from Kazakhstan will take part in competitions in such sports as para athletics, para powerlifting, para bullet shooting, para taekwondo, para table tennis, para swimming, para judo, para canoeing, para rowing, para archery, pair cycling, volleyball sitting, boccia and chess.
"It is very important for us to have high-quality training and achieve high results of our athletes. To date, in preparation for the Asian Para Games, the national teams have held more than 40 training camps in 14 sports. Also, the athletes are provided with all the necessary medicines for their recovery during the training camp," said Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports Sarsen Kuranbek at a press conference at the site of the Central Communications Service.
Also, it is important to note that athletes in Para Taekwondo, Para Cycling, Pair Canoe, Pair Rowing and Boccia will compete for the first time at the Asian Para Games.
The country's flag bearers at the opening and closing of the Games will be the silver medalist of the Asian Sitting Volleyball Championship Zhangali Suyeuov and the champion of international competitions in para table tennis Altynai Yerzhankyzy.
