A regular meeting of the Coordinating Committee of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for 2021-2025 was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the co-chairmanship of the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Kairat Umarov and the UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan Michaela Friberg-Storey, El.kz cites MFA.

The event, which was also timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the UN presence in our country, was attended by representatives of state bodies of Kazakhstan, the diplomatic corps and civil society.

During the opening of the meeting, Umarov informed about Kazakhstan's main foreign policy priorities in the context of interaction with the UN. “Many Kazakh initiatives announced from the main rostrum of the UN have been successfully implemented and recognized by the global community,” Umarov emphasized. The Deputy Foreign Minister also expressed gratitude to the UN Country Team for 30 years of support in implementing reforms in Kazakhstan, including social programs and human capital development.

Friberg-Storey in turn, highlighted that “the UN country team is pleased to work successfully with the Government of Kazakhstan, which has managed to achieve significant progress in development over the past three decades.”

In addition, the heads of representative offices of the UN agencies presented the results of their work and identified the main priorities in Kazakhstan for 2023.

During the event, representatives of the diplomatic corps exchanged views on the key areas of cooperation between our country and the UN structures and the prospects for further expansion.

Particular attention was paid to implementing 17 global Sustainable Development Goals and joint work to promote economic and political reforms of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The event participants confirmed the parties' mutual commitment to the practical and pragmatic cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UN.
