Director of Research Institute "Obschestvennoe mnenie", member of Scientific Expert Council of the APK Botagoz Rakisheva told about the results of sociological research "Tyurkbarometer".

‘Today, we present the results of sociological cross-country studies which are comparative in nature to ‘Tyurkbarometr’. It is a project of the International Turkic Academy, which was initiated in 2017 and was held in the capitals of Turkic-speaking countries – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan’– B. Rakisheva said at the meeting of the Central Asian Scientific and Expert Council of the APK "Kazakhstan and Central Asia: ethno-social processes and ethno-cultural dialogue’.

According to her, ‘Tyurkbarometer’ is along with such projects as Eurobarometer conducted by the European Union since 1974, ‘Latinobarometer’ and ‘Eurasian monitor’. She also noted that such barometers allow to see the processes that occur in a particular country in comparative dynamics.

Respondents were asked to name the most significant person in the Turkic world. ‘It was an open question, they called the names themselves. Basically, each respondent called the President of his country, but the common in the answers of all citizens of 6 countries was that they called two names - Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and President Nursultan Nazarbayev’, the expert concluded. According to research of ‘Tyurkbarometer’ last year, President Nursultan Nazarbayev was declared the most recognizable leader in Turkey. A large-scale study was conducted with the participation of residents of 6 countries: Kazakhstan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan.

‘Most of all, our citizens would like to travel in the countries of the Turkic world. The next question was about what separates us. The majority had difficulties to answer.  If the unifying factors were called 32, the separating-19. At the same time, language is both a unifying and a dividing factor in this case. From 18% to 67% of the citizens of our countries feel part of the modern Turkic world’, she said.
