Almaty plans to increase flow of foreign tourists to a million people

Akim of Almaty Yerbolat Dossayev said that the tourist infrastructure will be comprehensively developed in the city, El.kz reports with reference to Kazinform news agency.

"We need to fully use the tourism potential of Almaty and the Almaty agglomeration as a whole. We will comprehensively develop the tourist infrastructure, including the construction of a new airport terminal, which will double passenger traffic to 14 million people a year, create a Ski Recreation and Ecotourism Center, and expand the hotel fund," the akim said, presenting to the public the draft main priorities of the Development Plan until 2025 and medium-term prospects until 2030.

The head of the metropolis noted that in order to promote Almaty as a tourist destination and improve the quality of tourist services, a new brand of the city will be developed - Discover Almaty.

"We plan to increase the flow of foreign tourists to 1 million people in 2030," Dossayev added. According to the akim of the city, citizens received proposals on the standardization of the tourism management system, the introduction of digital maps, trilingual menus and free Wi-Fi in tourist areas.

"We agree with these proposals and will continue to take them into account when developing the Development Plan," the akim said.

Last year it was reported that over the past 5 years, the number of foreign tourists in the city has increased by 1.4 times - from 301 thousand to 435.6 thousand people.
