For six months of 2022, 7415 ethnic Kazakhs returned to Kazakhstan and received the status of kandas, El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Kazakhstan.

According to the ministry, since 1991, 1 million 95 thousand ethnic Kazakhs have returned to the republic.

More than half of thekandas (70.2%) who arrived in Kazakhstan since the beginning of 2022 are from Uzbekistan, 10.4% from China, 7.4% from Turkmenistan, 3.2% from Mongolia and 8.8% from other countries.

The arriving ethnic Kazakhs mainly settled in Almaty (31.6%), Mangystau (18.3%), Turkestan (9.8%), and Zhambyl (6.3%) regions, as well as in the cities of Almaty (5.7%), Nur-Sultan (7.1%) and Shymkent (8.1%).

The number of ethnic immigrants of working age is 62%. 24.1% are younger than working age, and 13.9% are pensioners. 11.4% of Kandas of working age have higher education, 40.3% have secondary specialized education, 47% have general secondary education, and 1.6% have no education at all.
