16.5 thousand foreigners work in Kazakhstan

According to the Ministry of Labor of Kazakhstan, as of June 1, 2022, 16,424 foreigners work in Kazakhstan with the permission of local authorities, El.kz reports.

There are following categories among the permits for attracting foreign labor:

617 permits for managers and their deputies (first category);

3,224 permits for heads of structural units (second category);

8,020 professional permits (third category);

926 permits for skilled workers (fourth category).

Also, 1,506 people have seasonal work, and 2,131 people were in corporate transfer.

At the moment, there are 1,762 employers using foreign labor in Kazakhstan. They employ more than 398 thousand citizens of Kazakhstan, which is 96% of the total number of employees.

The main countries of origin of labor migrants are China - 3,651 people, Turkey - 1,853 people, Uzbekistan - 1,605 people, India - 1,577 people, Great Britain - 1,113 people.

Let`s remind that in order to protect the domestic labor market, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan annually establishes and distributes a quota for attracting foreign specialists to the republic. In response to the instruction of the Head of State, given following a meeting with representatives of large domestic businesses in January of this year, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection reduced the quota for attracting foreign labor from the previously planned 28,352 to 23,560 units - by 4,792 units (16%).
