Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov held a meeting with the World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde, El.kz cites primeminister.kz

The parties discussed the current projects and further plans of the Bank in Kazakhstan, as well as the Government measures to implement reforms outlined by the President of Kazakhstan in his Address to the people of Kazakhstan for Sept.r 1, 2022, and the implementation of the World Bank Partnership Framework Strategy with our country for 2020-2025, and a number of other issues.

The Prime Minister stressed that with the active participation and assistance of the Bank projects aimed at dynamic social and economic development are successfully implemented in the Republic.

"Currently, together with the World Bank, a number of new projects are being worked out. The Government is ready to consider in detail the possibility of their implementation," Alikhan Smailov said.

At the same time, he noted that today the Government is actively working on reforms aimed at strengthening the institution of legislative power and qualitative modernization of the economy through strengthening of fair competition, protection of private property, demonopolization, etc.

"All these measures will significantly strengthen the system of protection of interests and rights of business, will create ample economic opportunities for both domestic entrepreneurs and foreign investors. In this regard, we welcome your initiatives to support our reforms," Alikhan Smailov emphasized.

In turn, Anna Bjerde noted that Kazakhstan and the World Bank have a long history of cooperation. So, over the past years 47 projects worth over $8 billion have been successfully implemented.

"In the context of new economic challenges, we need to plan ahead for the projects we would like to implement. I believe we have opportunities to expand cooperation," Bjerde said.
