The Head of the Kazakh Government Alikhan Smailov approved the decision to launch the state initiative "Affordable Internet", El.kz reports.

The main mission of this state project is to provide residents of the country with the opportunity to use high-speed Internet with a minimum speed of 100 megabits per second.

The Affordable Internet project, covering the period from 2024 to 2027, involves investments of over 1.5 trillion tenge, of which 1.3 trillion tenge is expected to be attracted from extra-budgetary sources.

It is planned that a significant amount of funding will be used to improve both cable and wireless communication infrastructure.

The priority is to create an extensive network of fiber-optic communications in rural areas.

Through public-private partnership, it is planned to install the necessary communication lines in more than three thousand rural settlements. As a result, about 400 thousand households will have access to high-speed Internet.

The project also includes the construction of digital infrastructure to provide mobile Internet to the main national and regional roads, with plans to install 487 antenna mast devices, which will cover 17 thousand kilometers of roads with Internet connection.

At the moment, 605 base stations are already operating, and by the end of 2025, it is planned to distribute 5G technology in all cities of republican significance and regional centers. In this direction, investments of telecom operators will reach approximately 300 billion tenge.

In general, the implementation of the national project until 2027 will achieve 100% coverage of the population of Kazakhstan with high-speed Internet and contributes to strengthening the country's status as a key regional center in the field of digital technologies.
