A person of independence with a separate position and high pedestal
The 30th anniversary of our independence, the 35th anniversary of the “December events”, the beginning of our sovereignty, are celebrated in various parts of the country this year. The 60th anniversary of Zayadan Bolatkhan Kazykhanuly, a biologist-ecologist, the Doctor of biological sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, the Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, who was born in the Kazakh land and planted the flag of science in his independent homeland, is coincided with these holidays. When he returned to the country, his tireless work in science and education, administration and society has been the contribution to the independence since 1997.
As the Great poet Abai said, “If you are not, be like him”, it is clear that in order to become a leader in education and science, you need a strong spirit, hard work, a simple human nature, courage in the heart like Bolatkhan Kazykhanuly. Bolatkhan Kazykhanuly is one of the few Kazakh-speaking scientists in the field of biotechnology in the country. To date that, more than 20 textbooks and manuals have been published there. There are textbooks, such as “Food Biotechnology”, “Environmental Biotechnology”, “Microflora of Reservoirs”, “Fundamentals of Biotechnology”, “Methods of isolation and active cultivation of pure algae cultures”, “Biology as a binder for the applicants”, “Biotechnology of phototrophic microorganisms”, “Catalog of collections of microflora and cyanobacteria culture” are among them. Also in Russian there are published tools like “Biomonitoring of aquatic ecosystems on the basis of microflora”, “Biotechnology of phototrophic microorganisms”, “Ecological biotechnology of phototrophic microorganisms”, “Biotechnology of phototrophic microorganisms”.
Kazakhstan`s science is a part of world science and in order to raise the Kazakh science to the international level, one of the tasks our scientists face is not only to study scientific works in English, but also to publish their works in English. Bolatkhan Kazykhanuly's internship in 2000 at the Research and Practice Center in Hyderabad, Delhi, India, and at the University College London (UCL) in the United Kingdom in 2009 allowed him to become a fluent in English and acquainted him with the world's scientific literature. He has published an English textbook “Basics of Biotechnology”, a textbook “Environmental biotechnology” and more than 80 articles on the basis of Web of Science, Scopus. Due to this, according to the Web of Science Core Collection in 2017, the Springer was awarded a diploma of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the high citation among Kazakhstani scientists in the field of “Green energy” in 2012-2016, and this year for the high publication activity in the journals of “Springer Nature”. It is not for nothing that our wise forefathers said, “It is better to have a son than to have a father”. Bolatkhan Kazykhanuly's great-grandfather was the hero Kozhabergen Zhyrau, who lived in the 18th century. As the saying goes, “Father saw a bullet”, Bolatkhan Kazykhanuly grew up from an early age eager to learn under the tutelage of a caring father and a loving mother. On the other hand, it is obvious that the nature of the native land, the clear air, the sacred soil of the rich land with honey springs also influenced it. From 1969 to 1979, when he studied at the secondary schools of Kobda region, he became interested in wildlife and began to study the biological phenomena around it. In addition, he was actively involved in various social activities of school life.
