Head of the department of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yermek Toktarov, shared his opinion on the upcoming presidential elections.

The expert noted that the specifics of these elections are primarily related to global instability in the world.

"The peculiarity of the current early presidential elections is that they will be held in rather difficult geopolitical and macroeconomic conditions, when we want to maintain our status as a stable state from a political and economic point of view. In this regard, the decision to hold early presidential elections is timely. It should be understood that the course of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev initially from the moment of his election in 2019 is aimed at transforming the country's political system, at its further liberalization and democratization. And the special attention is paid to the institution of elections. In this regard, ensuring open and fair elections is just an important point that will qualitatively distinguish a fair Kazakhstan, that is, the republic that we are building now," Yermek Toktarov said.

The expert believes that one of the main tasks of the elections, both presidential and parliamentary, is to transform the country's political system.

"The peculiarity of political decisions is such that they need to be made in a timely manner, taking into account all factors, especially given the high dynamics of political, economic and social processes, not only in our society, but also in the world. And in order to feel the real effect of the reforms that were adopted, including at the referendum on June 5, in the near future, the Head of State announced the need to hold early presidential and parliamentary elections. All these measures by the middle of next year should form an updated political system and on the basis of the new configuration we will be able to implement a qualitatively new model of public administration. It is important to understand that the construction of a Just Kazakhstan is a mutual process, when all subjects of the political field and especially civil society are actively involved, these are voters, observers, citizens. That is, everyone should do their part, setting the pace of transformation. The President creates conditions for everyone in the country to exercise their political and civil rights. The holding of elections will mark the beginning of a new stage in the political development of the country. And here civil society should show its political culture, that this culture has grown and become qualitatively different, that our society can become a subject of the political process, participate in making effective decisions," the expert concluded.
