Kazakhstan’s positive experience in the implementation of the OECD’s Program for International Student Assessment was noted at the round table titled “Lessons from PISA 2022 for Eurasia”, El.kz cites MFA.
The event took place in Paris in the framework of the OECD Eurasian Week – an annual high-level meeting of countries participating in the Eurasian Competitiveness Program of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.
The lessons of the country’s participation in the PISA 2022 study were discussed in the report of the Minister of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Gani Beisembayev, which was presented to the participants of the meeting by the Permanent Delegate of Kazakhstan to International Organizations in Paris Askar Abdrakhmanov.
It was noted that Kazakhstan’s progress in PISA was influenced by the introduction of relevant educational initiatives implemented with the support of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Consolidating the status of teacher, introduction of updated curricula, wider use of digital solutions in the educational process, were named as the factors for the improvement of the nation’s positions in the latest PISA research.
Senior Advisor to the OECD Directorate for Education and Skills Elizabeth Fordham noted that despite the global deterioration in PISA scores during the COVID-19 pandemic, Kazakhstan managed to maintain its performance in mathematics and reading skills, and showed notable progress in science-related competences. According to her, Kazakhstan’s significant experience of participation in PISA and some relevant steps aimed at improving the national education system may be of interest and useful for other countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus to study.
Representatives of Moldova and Armenia were other keynote speakers at the event.
