The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, expressed his concern about the low level of protection of the country's domestic market according to the WTO classification. Stressing that many states are moving towards protectionist industrial policies, including developed countries, Tokayev called for "new, bold approaches" regarding the country's trade policy, El.kz reports citing Akorda.

The focus will be on protecting domestic producers while keeping the country's economy open.

Tokayev also drew attention to the need to improve technological and environmental standards in the mining industry. Despite the contribution of this sector to the economy, there are increasing complaints from citizens living in areas of large industries about negative environmental consequences and threats to health.

"On the world market, prices for most types of metal have reached historic highs. At the same time, the discontent of citizens living around large industries has been growing lately. They complain about the deterioration of the environment and harm to health," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

In response to these challenges, the Head of State called on the Government to take decisive measures to improve the condition of manufacturing enterprises. Particular emphasis was placed on the need for regular technological and environmental audits for large industrial and infrastructure enterprises every five years.
