Kazakh military takes course on peace and security

In Almaty, the Center for Peacekeeping Operations of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan together with the British Embassy in Kazakhstan held a course "Adviser on Human Security and Gender Issues", El.kz reports citing the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The training was held by representatives of the Armed Forces, the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as other law enforcement agencies of the Central Asian region. The opening ceremony of the course was attended by the representative of UN Women Maria Dotsenko. Lectures were delivered by the British military attaché to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Lieutenant Colonel Rob Baxter, and the head of the private foundation "Korgau-Astana" Anna Ryl.

The training was conducted by officers-teachers of the Department of Peacekeeping Training of the CMO of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The purpose of the course was to train specialists who study and apply the norms of the UN resolution "Women, Peace and Security", to familiarize participants with the legal framework and the concept of protection of civilians.

The main part of the training week focused on familiarizing students with relevant guidance documents, in particular with the UN Concept and Strategy for the Protection of Vulnerable Populations in Peacekeeping Operations, the role of a human security adviser and gender issues in the military decision-making process. Particular attention was paid to the protection of children in armed conflict and coordination work with NGOs and UN regional offices.

At the end of the course, participants were given time to prepare a report on the analysis of the operational situation from the perspective of the Adviser on Human Security and Gender Perspectives on previously studied models. The course concluded with a Q&A session, followed by a brief analysis of the feedback. At the closing ceremony, the participants were awarded certificates.
