From February 7, 2024, restrictions on the import of poultry products from Kazakhstan to China have been lifted, El.kz reports with reference to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The ban on the import of poultry products has lasted since 2005. The lifting of restrictions makes it possible to resume exports to China of frozen beef and pork from the southeastern regions of Kazakhstan, as well as a wide range of poultry products.

It is important to note that now Kazakhstan will be able to start the procedure for coordinating veterinary requirements to expand the range of export goods, as well as work on the admission to export of enterprises from all over Kazakhstan.

The decision to lift the bans was made after the official visit of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the PRC in 2023, during which the Head of State noted Kazakhstan's readiness to supply livestock products to China.

A number of negotiations were held by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin, and in November 2023, an official meeting was held between the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aidarbek Saparov and the Chairman of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China Yu Jianhua.

During 2023, the Chinese side conducted a risk assessment for avian influenza and foot-and-mouth disease. In December, as part of the visit to Kazakhstan of a group of experts from the State Customs University of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People's Republic of China, an audit of the activities of the veterinary service was carried out to ensure sufficient control over the above-mentioned diseases.

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan will continue to expand the Register of Enterprises Focused on Export to China. This event will open up new opportunities for Kazakh agribusiness to export its products to the Chinese market.
