In Almaty, on December 25-30, the Palace of Sports and Culture named after Baluan Sholak will host the World Championship in fast and lightning-fast chess, El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the akim of Almaty.
The prize fund is $1 million. The strongest chess players from 50 countries will compete for the title of world champion.
"The tournament will be held under the auspices of FIDE. The total number of participants will be 176 players. 98 chess players will take part in the women's tournament. The current champions from Norway, the USA, the Netherlands, Azerbaijan, China, France, Poland, India, Georgia, Iran, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan and the International Chess Federation will take part in the championship," the press service said.
